The board is the regulation bristle board in the WDF Playing Rules and the PDC's dartboard specification: a 170 mm scoring radius, 8 mm double and treble rings, a 12.7 mm bull and 31.8 mm outer bull, hung with the bull 1.73 m high and the oche 2.37 m from its face.
The spread follows Tibshirani, Price & Taylor, “A statistician plays darts” (Journal of the Royal Statistical Society A, 2011): a throw lands at the aim plus a round Gaussian error. The skill levels here — 16, 30, 45 and 64 mm — are illustrative, not measured players.
The flight is gravity plus a small quadratic drag on a 22 g dart released about 0.4 m past the oche at eye height near 6 m/s — the range high-speed studies of throwers report. It is shown at half speed.
The rules: 501, double out, the bull counts as a double; a visit that goes below zero, leaves one, or reaches zero off anything but a double is bust. The seven scores under 171 that no three darts can finish — 159, 162, 163, 165, 166, 168, 169 — are the bogey numbers.
Simplified. The dart does not bounce out, deflect off the wire or clatter into its neighbours; the computer aims at the treble 20 or its checkout and misses with the same round spread you do.
